𝙒𝙚 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙖𝙡𝙮𝙯𝙚 𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙨𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣

Young artists sang “we can be the ones..!” while mixing paint, hummed the tune during green screen experiments, chanted the words while running through Domino Park with cameras—the anthem took shape through action. Weeks of watercolor, movement, light play, large-scale collaborative painting, overhead projector lens experiments, outdoor filming sessions. Every exploration is another way of understanding what it feels like to catalyze transformation. Our 2025 anthem “We Will Be The Ones” was built from young artists discovering their power to create change through deliberate action.

Green screen movement sessions revealed rhythm emerging from gesture and response. One young artist moved, another mirrored, a third added variation. “Every time I make a change, it paves the way for other changes.” The lyric lived in their bodies before they sang it - cause and effect visible in real time through motion.

Overhead projector experiments showed how small changes in angle transform what becomes visible. Light and shadow work revealed how perspective changes the view - same object, different sides depending on where they stood, how they looked. 'How I feel at the other side depends on how I think about it.'

The large-scale collaborative painting in brilliant yellows then reds then purples happened through dialogue. Where should this mark go? What happens if we overlap here? Young artists made choices together, watched the surface shift with each decisionmany hands working on one composition, countless conversations unfolding about what to do next. Painting feet brought transformation into the body - walking across paper, feeling texture, leaving traces. The refrain “we can be the ones” became real through shared action.

Watercolor experiments showed what happens when they painted one color close enough to another - they meet, merge, become something neither color was alone. Young artists learned they could create conditions for transformation. “The colors change, they build and break” - observable on every page. Those explorations became the album cover for the song.

Singing practice built confidence session by session. Tentative voices grew stronger through repetition and willingness to try again. “I get the strength to keep on going, knowing I’ll be better for it.” Strength as something one builds through showing up and trying again.

Filming at Domino Park took the work beyond studio walls. Young artists took turns with handheld video cameras and DSLRs, switching roles - one moment filming, the next being filmed, then directing what to capture. Running, jumping, claiming space, the park became a set. 'I can play my part' - each young artist played different parts as they rotated through roles.

Young artists learned the vocabulary by experiencing what the words mean. Catalyze- to cause or accelerate change - became concrete through painting, moving, singing. They could define it and demonstrate it. Transformation and change - words describing what they caused and what they felt through their choices. Full circle - the cycles they experienced coming back to the work with fresh understanding. Open heart and open mind - the mindset required to approach materials with curiosity and possibility. Strength - what they built through showing up and trying again.

During one painting session, a young artist said, “We keep changing it!” Another paused mid-brushstroke and responded, “It never ends how it starts.” That observation became a lyric in the song.

The refrain we will change things carried through every studio session. Young artists hear a lot: talk about what's next, questions in every direction, everything. They are always absorbing so much from the world around them. Studio processes and this song emerged through the energy of 2025 to carry into 2026 and beyond. What matters most: young artists recognizing their power to create change right now. The song shifts from we can be the ones to we will be the ones. Fast, upbeat, catchy, hope-filled - this anthem affirms our belief in young artists catalyzing change and leading the charge for our future world.

‘Consider Community Concept’
When planning how to put our teaching philosophy into practice, we first develop a single-sentence Consider Community Concept (always beginning with the word ‘our’) to direct intention for teaching artists & young artists to infuse real life perspective within the art-making process. To develop a CCC, we finish this sentence: “Young artists consider community by ____.” Example: “Young artists consider community by recognizing their power to create change through their actions.” With the sentence now complete, we develop the CCC: “Our ability to catalyze transformation is present.”
