The Painted Cloud is run by artists Sarah Conarro and Julian Bozeman. Both artists have led arts education projects since ~2006 to include training new teaching artists, leading cont. education projects for classroom teachers learning to integrate arts into their schools, and devising cultural collaboration projects to reflect, honor, and explore culture and identity.
The pair’s knowledge of materials for visual art-making, social practice, and using video+technology as vessels for performance makes The Painted Cloud what it is: an avant-garde initiative where are all welcome to dive into new tools and materials without knowing the outcome, learn to notice and observe, master trusting one’s intuition, and bring intention to the act of engaging in dialogue. The Painted Cloud meets as a summer intensive studio and works on project-based initiatives with school districts and community entities during the academic year.
When not running The Painted Cloud, Sarah can be found teaching at Parsons at The New School, hosting a living room lecture series, running a crowd-sourced tv channel for artists, gathering advice on the roadside, creating commissioned work, and pushing paint around in her studio. Julian can be found recording albums, creating music videos, donning a wig for performances, transforming spaces, and MC’ing karaoke parties.
